I grew up in Waipunalei on a sugar plantation camp with the same name. My dad worked for the sugar company and had also leased some land to raise cattle just below the airstrip. As young kids we'd be in awe as the bi-planes would load fertilizer then take off to spray the sugar cane fields. When we took breaks from tending the cattle, my brothers and I would make our way up to the airstrip to watch the action. Although we never got a chance to fly in one, I always admired these pilots. This all happened back in the early to mid-1960s and the airstrip was well maintained. Good memories of my childhood and moreso of my times up their with my parents and siblings.

Not good for airplanes, but a nice place to walk the dog.
